Chicago, Illinois

Who we are

A small crew that puts the weeks on paper

Sumter Home Additions builds on the block where owners already live: Portage Park, Jefferson Park, Belmont Cragin and the streets around them. The firm is small on purpose. The person who measures your house is the one who answers when the city writes back.

  • One phone number, answered by someone who knows your job

  • A written schedule before you sign

  • Photos of what's inside the walls before they close

The people on your job

Five people, one phone number

  • Lauryn Sumter in a yellow hard hat and safety vest, measuring along an opened wall

    Lauryn Sumter

    Owner and design lead

Lauryn draws the plans and runs the site visits. She walks every house before the first drawing.

  • Milan Stepien

    Project manager

Milan writes the schedule and answers the city's comments. He speaks Polish and English.

  • Jimena Loera

    Permits and scheduling

Jimena files the applications and keeps the calendar. She speaks Spanish and English.

  • Vicente Centeno

    Lead carpenter

Vicente runs the framing crew and the daily dust barriers. He speaks Spanish and English.

  • Rae Marlowe in a leather apron and plaid shirt putting on ear protection in a woodshop

    Rae Marlowe

    Finish carpenter

Rae builds the stairs, trim and built-ins that make an addition look like it was always there.

Come meet us at your house
